I was thinking (that isn’t always good), my grandmother was the oldest of seven sisters, around whom my family reunion is based. In writing the names down of all the people who were descended from my grandmother, I realized how important it was that my grandmother was born.

Planting and sowing seeds are powerful acts. Every time I look at a mighty oak, a towering redwood or a beautiful willow, trees that could be hundreds if not thousands of years old, I am amazed that such natural wonders began as minute seedlings and fragile saplings.
Cruise passengers find common ground in Shabbat celebration
One of the joys of cruising is meeting people from all over, including Jews from across the United States and around the world. We have met Jews from Texas, Connecticut, Ohio, Canada, England and Argentina. And yes, we have celebrated Shabbat with some of those we have met.

The three ladies we remember this month are Beulah “Terry” Brodie, Deloris Fishman and Alice Levine Yalowitz. Terry was born in Galveston, Texas, to Fred and Ann Ruth Bergman. Terry was a 59-year member of United Hebrew Congregation and its Sisterhood…. Deloris was born in Farmersburg to Fred and Gertrude (Railsback) Hammack…. Alice was born in Joliet, Illinois, and preceded by her husband Harold.
