Board, volunteers produce Temple improvements in time for holidays

STAND brings Rwandan genocide survivor Emmanuel Habimana to speak April 7 at UHC

UHC will once again welcome the community to its sanctuary when the Terre Haute South Vigo High School STAND club presents guest speaker and Rwandan genocide survivor Emmanuel Habimana, from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the Temple.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide, when members of the Hutu majority murdered some 800,000 people, mostly of the Tutsi minority.

The event is part of #TogetherWeRemember, an “annual international campaign to transform remembrance into action to end identity-based violence for all humanity.”

Leadership conference, stained glass repair, Kristallnacht event on tap; OSU honors Betsy

On Sunday, October 28, three UHC board members will attend the Union for Reform Judaism’s Day of Leadership Learning at Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation.

This program will take place in 40 reform congregations across North America and will bring leaders together to collaborate and generate new ideas to strengthen their synagogues.

In other news, Theater 7 will present a staged reading of This Side of Eternity: The Story of Kristallnacht, by former Terre Haute resident Christopher Bibby, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in the UHC sanctuary.

Latter-day Saints members to join UHC for Shabbat services on October 19

United Hebrew Congregation will welcome our friends from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Terre Haute for Erev Shabbat services at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 19.

The Latter-day Saints community has graciously and generously partnered with UHC on three separate occasions to provide receptions after programs held at the synagogue.

Student Rabbi Jonathan Falco will officiate in the sanctuary. The service will be live-streamed to the Vestry Room for those who are unable to climb stairs. An Oneg Shabbat will follow.
