Sisterhood reschedules; declares Hanukkah store open for business

By Patty Lewis

An early winter blast led Sisterhood to cancel its November meeting, scheduled for Grand Traverse Pie Company, 75 North Third St. in Terre Haute.

We’ve rescheduled for the same time and location, noon Tuesday, Dec. 10. The weather forecast calls for 28 degrees and cloudy, but no snow! Please join us.

Hanukkah will begin the evening of Sunday, Dec. 22, so now is the time to visit our holiday gift shop in the Vestry Room.

Sisterhood will meet for pie in November, seeks charity project ideas for new year

By Patty Lewis

Sisterhood continued one tradition over the summer and then resumed its fall schedule with a lunch meeting at McAlister’s Deli and work on the 5780 Rosh Hashanah greetings booklet.

Thank you all for your donations and dues, and to the anonymous individual who left a lovely note and generous donation at Norma’s office.

We will next meet for our second-Tuesday luncheon event at noon Nov. 12, 2019, at Grand Traverse Pie Company, 75 North Third St. in Terre Haute.

Please come on out, and bring some new ideas for Sisterhood projects. I’m thinking of a small fundraiser. If you have a charity in mind, please let me know!

Parents, teachers and students are getting things done at religious school

By Patty Lewis

I am going to start out by bragging about our religious school.

About 11:30 a.m. one Sunday, I went down to the Temple to get a few things done, and listened and watched the students during their class.

I was so impressed with the parents, teachers and older children who were helping. As the class came to an end, everyone gathered in a circle and sang a song together and it was beautiful.

There are larger congregations with more children in religious school but you would not find a school run as well as ours.

If you ever question the future of our religious school, please visit and watch the students in action.

Spring is here. Now would be a good time for working women to join Temple Sisterhood!

By Patty Lewis

Sisterhood will meet at noon Tuesday, April 16, at Rick’s Smokehouse, 3102 Wabash Ave. in Terre Haute. Please join us!

Last month, we got together at the Fly-IN Cafe at Terre Haute Regional Airport. I think everyone enjoyed watching the planes as we ate some delicious food.

We held a brief meeting after our meal, allowing us to take care of a few tasks and make some decisions.

As we have for many years, Sisterhood will make a donation to CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center. The museum is an important part of the past and the future. We also decided we will help military veterans this year.

I know some of you ladies still considering Sisterhood but have not yet joined. We would love to have all the women at our Temple to be a part of our organization. You can still make a difference as a member of Sisterhood, even if you can’t make it to meetings!
