Jolliff family honors late UHC member Dr. Jack Weinbaum

Recently, Cathy and Steve Jolliff sent a contribution in memory of Dr. Jack Weinbaum.

I sent the notice to Bobbie Weinbaum and she was curious as to who the Jolliffs were. I told Bobbie I knew the Jolliffs as very nice people who attended services on special occasions and were friends of Louise and Walter Sommers.

I emailed Cathy for further details to pass along to Bobbie. When Bobbie received this information, it warmed her heart to know how Dr. Weinbaum had touched the Jolliffs’ lives and still remembered him after all these years.

A new generation emerges of the Yalowitz family

Did you ever get an unexpected telephone call that opened a flood of memories?

That is exactly what happened to me. It was almost closing time and I answered a phone call from a soft-spoken lady who wanted to buy a Yartzeit candle from the gift shop.

She was coming from the north side. I wasn’t in a rush and a Yartzeit candle is pretty important. I ask the lady her name and she said, “Myrna”.

At that point, I was hoping her last name was Gray, and it was!

United Hebrew Congregation remembers three ladies for January 2017

The three ladies we remember this month are Beulah “Terry” Brodie, Deloris Fishman and Alice Levine Yalowitz. Terry was born in Galveston, Texas, to Fred and Ann Ruth Bergman. Terry was a 59-year member of United Hebrew Congregation and its Sisterhood…. Deloris was born in Farmersburg to Fred and Gertrude (Railsback) Hammack…. Alice was born in Joliet, Illinois, and preceded by her husband Harold.
