United Hebrew Congregation members and guests gathered in the glow of an unseasonably warm evening Wednesday, Sept. 20, to celebrate Erev Rosh Hashanah 5778 at Temple Israel.
Student Rabbi Kylynn Perdue-Bronson marked her first High Holy Days officiating “for grownups”, proceeding neatly and efficiently through the service, which marked the congregation’s seasonal return to the upstairs sanctuary.

United Hebrew Congregation Terre Haute recently welcomed Student Rabbi Kylynn Perdue-Bronson with a Shabbat dinner to celebrate her first service at Temple Israel.
Rabbi Kylynn will serve UHC Terre Haute throughout the 2017-18 academic year. She will officiate Erev Rosh Hashanah services at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, and lead the congregation throughout the High Holy Days.
The first Stained Glass Sunday Afternoon in 13 years drew about 100 people, says Community Preservation Specialist Chris Usler.
Even more encouraging, those visitors came motivated to listen and learn. “I was pleasantly surprised not only that we got the turnout we did but the people who did attend were really interested,” says Usler, based at the Western Regional Office in Terre Haute. “They spent a lot of time trying to learn and understand.”
