Each generation adjusts to challenges; Sisterhood collects items for foster families

By Patty Lewis

December 2017 has passed and as everyone says, “We wonder where the year went!”

I will tell you where the year went — it went in the archives.

Patty Lewis and husband Ralph celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2017.

Generation after generation will repeat the question, “Where did the year go?” and each generation will reflectively ask, “I wonder what kind of life past generations lived?”

And if I were there, I would tell them the lives of past generations went just like your life.

You learn when you get older that you aren’t as smart as you thought you were when when you were younger.

We have lost a lot of the ones we loved. We have learned to adjust just the same way you will.

Each generation has its hard times and its good times. I have been very fortunate to have lived at this time. I have a husband I love and who loves me.

I have a wonderful family. I’ve also been very lucky to have been part of our congregation and knowing some wonderful people. We miss each one we have lost but feel lucky that we still have our memories of them.

New foundation seeks clothing and more for foster families

Sisterhood has taken on a new community project for 2018. Borrowed Hearts is a new organization that is working with foster families. They need help from the community.

We are going to collect items foster parents need, such as clothing and personal items. Some of the foster children arrive with no possessions. A greater need exists in the community than many of us may realize.

These children range in age from infants to teenagers. Diapers are an item foster parents will always need. Sisterhood will set up a table at the Temple where you can drop off items anytime you would like. We appreciate your donations!

Our next Sisterhood meeting will be noon Tuesday, March 13. Even though we will not meet in January or February, we will still be active if there is a need where Sisterhood can help.

Check your Sisterhood directory for hostess schedules

I am very pleased with our new Sisterhood directory.

If you have not received yours, please pick one up at the Temple, find your name and note the months you are scheduled to serve as hostess or hostess helper.

If you cannot serve on a certain date, please notify me and we can switch the names around.

Also, please thank Norma for putting the directory together. As I’ve said before, Norma is always there when we need her. Never fear, Norma is here!

Patty Lewis is president of UHC Terre Haute Sisterhood.
