Shalom, all!
My name is Remy Liverman and I am delighted a to be joining United Hebrew Congregation as your student rabbi for the coming year.
A little about my personal background: I was born in Montreal and raised in Toronto, Canada. My family and I were active members of Temple Sinai in the greater Toronto area, and I spent my summers at Camp Northland B’nai B’rith in northern Ontario.
I moved to the States in 2008 for college at the University of Miami, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in philosophy and psychology, with a minor in theater arts.
On the move from Miami to Jerusalem to Atlanta
After graduating, I decided to move to Israel to be part of a new MASA Journey program, volunteering as a medic with Magen David Adom in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
In 2016, I went back to school to earn my master’s in religious studies at Georgia State University in Atlanta. During those two years, I also taught an Introduction to World Religions class for undergraduate students.
I also taught I taught Hebrew school at Temple Breman Education Center in Atlanta and was fortunate to assist the clergy on young-adult outreach programs. Rabbi Peter Berg and Rabbi David Spinrad became wonderful mentors to me as I worked with them in the Temple community.
Working in the community for social justice
At the Temple’s Rothschild Social Justice Institute, I was honored to assist ongoing projects for racial justice and gun violence prevention, as well as on advocacy projects for refugee assistance programs.
I am deeply grateful for my time at Temple Breman with a congregation boasting such an impressive history of social justice advocacy, dating back to Rabbi Jacob M. Rothschild’s committed involvement as an activist supporting the U.S. civil rights movement.
The Temple gave me so much support and experience on my journey toward rabbinical school, and I hope to carry on this sacred work as a rabbi.

I look forward to meeting all of you soon!
