Sisterhood raffle winner finds happy home for plush afghan

By Patty Lewis

And the winner of the afghan is … Mally Frandzel!

Mary Nasser (with UHC president Patty Lewis), models her new afghan.

Sisterhood held a brown bag luncheon on September 11, with all eyes on the raffle to award the afghan I made to raise funds for our annual activities.

I asked UHC Secretary Norma Collins to draw the winning ticket.

Sisterhood member Mally Frandzel was the lucky winner, but she had other ideas for her prize. We left the meeting and went straight to Mary Nasser’s home and gave her the 9 x 4-foot afghan, white with teal stripes and made of soft baby yarn.

Mary, 94, was Mally’s typing teacher. My husband, Ralph, was happy about this as well, as Mary was his teacher, too.

Little did we know I was making this afghan for their former teacher. I’m sure other congregants learned typing from Mary as well during her long career at Sarah Scott Middle School and Wylie High School.

We also want to thank Mr. David Callahan and his staff at Callahan-Hughes Funeral Home for the calendars they provide each year. As always, they are beautiful!

Patty Lewis is president of UHC Terre Haute Sisterhood.
